Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
Oui Chef is an AI-assisted meal-prep assistant for iOS 17 and later, available in English and Simplified Chinese. It helps you discover recipes, build a weekly meal plan, generate a consolidated shopping list, run batch ("atomic") prep, allocate cooked food to your fridge or freezer, and reheat it to eat — with cooking guidance tuned to your own kitchen hardware. The app is organized into four tabs: Bistro (discover and adopt public recipes and plans), Atelier (your personal recipe library, active plan, and shopping list), Command (step-by-step prep execution and hardware-aware reheat protocols), and Station (profile, kitchen hardware, medals, and settings).
Oui Chef is operated by JUSTGOOD (HONGKONG) CO., LIMITED ("JUSTGOOD," "we," "us," or "our"), a company incorporated in Hong Kong. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Oui Chef iOS app, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to the Oui Chef app and the backend services that power it. By using Oui Chef, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what we need to run Oui Chef and personalize your meal-prep experience. We group the information as follows:
- Account data: Your email address. If you use Magic Link login, we email a one-time sign-in link to that address. If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive the email Apple provides, which may be an anonymized Apple private-relay address.
- Profile & dietary / nutrition data (your "Persona"): Your health and meal goals; dietary preferences (for example vegetarian, vegan, keto, low-sodium, high-protein, dairy-free, halal, or kosher); allergens you want excluded; disliked ingredients; flavor preferences (spice tolerance, salt preference, sweet tooth, preferred or avoided aromas); and a nutrition profile consisting of your height, weight, age, sex, and activity level, which we use to compute daily calorie and carbohydrate, protein, and fiber targets. Please note that this includes sensitive, health-related information. See Section 6 for how we handle it.
- Kitchen hardware: The cooking appliances you register (such as microwave, oven, air fryer, rice cooker, or stovetop) and their wattage or specs, so we can tailor prep steps and reheat protocols to your equipment.
- Photos & camera: When you use the photo-to-recipe feature, you can photograph a dish or ingredients, and the image is sent to an AI vision model for food recognition. This requires Camera and Photo Library access, which is requested only when you invoke the feature.
- User content: The recipes you save or create, your weekly meal plans, and your shopping lists.
- Usage & device data: App analytics, log data, device identifiers, app version, and crash diagnostics, used to keep the app working and improve it.
- Purchase data: If you subscribe to Oui Chef Pro, we receive a purchase receipt or transaction record from Apple. We do not collect or store your payment card details — Apple handles all payment through the App Store.
- Notifications: We schedule local notifications for cooking-step timers (which can ring through silent mode) and weekly meal-prep reminders, based on your activity in the app.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Personalize your meal plans, recipes, prep orchestration, and hardware-aware reheat protocols based on your Persona and registered kitchen hardware
- Generate AI recognitions from your photos and produce recipes, plans, and consolidated shopping lists
- Operate core features — authenticate you, save your recipes, plans, and shopping lists, and sync your data across the service
- Process Oui Chef Pro subscriptions and manage your access to paid features
- Send cooking-step timer alerts and weekly meal-prep reminders
- Improve, debug, and secure the app, including analyzing usage and diagnosing crashes
- Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights and the safety of our users
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Where data-protection laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance apply, we rely on the following legal bases to process your personal data:
- Consent: For sensitive nutrition and health-related data in your Persona and for photos you upload through the photo-to-recipe feature, we rely on your explicit consent. You can withdraw this consent at any time by editing your Persona, declining or revoking Camera and Photo Library permissions, or deleting your account.
- Performance of a contract: To provide the core features you ask for — authenticating you, saving and syncing your recipes, plans, and shopping lists, and managing your Oui Chef Pro subscription.
- Legitimate interests: To analyze usage, diagnose crashes, secure the service, and prevent fraud and abuse, where these interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Legal obligation: To comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.
5. AI Processing & Third Parties
Oui Chef relies on third-party AI providers to deliver its core experience. To perform food recognition and to generate plans, prep orchestration, reheat protocols, and shopping-list aggregation, your photos and relevant Persona and recipe context may be transmitted to:
- OpenAI — for vision and text generation
- Google (Google Vertex AI / Gemini) — for vision and text generation
These providers act as processors on our behalf: they process the inputs we send only to return results to the app, and not for their own independent purposes. We do not control these providers' own systems, so we encourage you to review their published API data-usage policies for details on how submitted inputs may be retained or used on their side. We also rely on these additional service providers:
- Apple — for Sign in with Apple, App Store and StoreKit subscription processing, and notification delivery
- Cloud hosting & database infrastructure providers — your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by these providers
- Email delivery provider — to send your Magic Link sign-in emails
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
6. Sensitive & Health Data
Your nutrition and dietary data — including your nutrition profile, allergens, and dietary restrictions — are sensitive. We use this information solely to compute nutrition targets and to personalize your meal plans and prep protocols, and we share it with the AI and infrastructure providers described in Section 5 only as needed to deliver these features.
Oui Chef is not a medical, dietetic, or nutrition-counseling service, and it does not provide medical advice. The calorie, macro, and meal targets it generates are informational aids, not professional guidance. Consult a qualified professional for medical or dietary decisions.
Allergen exclusions are a best-effort aid and are not a guarantee that a recipe is free of any given allergen. If you have a serious allergy, you must verify every ingredient yourself before preparing or eating any dish.
7. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: With the AI, cloud hosting, database, email, and Apple service providers described in Section 5, who process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations and only to provide their services to us
- Legal disclosures: When required by applicable law, or to comply with legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users, JUSTGOOD, or others
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy
8. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encryption of data in transit and access controls that limit who can reach your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active so that we can provide the service. After you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your associated personal data, except where we are required to retain certain information to meet legal, accounting, or reporting obligations.
10. Your Rights & Choices
You have meaningful control over your data, both inside the app and through your device settings:
- View and edit your Persona: You can review and update your profile, dietary data, nutrition profile, and kitchen hardware at any time in the app
- Delete your account: You can delete your account directly in the app under Station / Settings, which removes your account and associated personal data. If you prefer, you can also request deletion by emailing [email protected]
- Manage device permissions: You can revoke Camera, Photo Library, and notification permissions at any time in your iOS Settings
- Manage your subscription: You can view, change, or cancel your Oui Chef Pro subscription through your Apple ID subscription settings
Depending on where you live, data-protection laws such as the GDPR or the Hong Kong Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance may give you additional statutory rights, including the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct inaccurate data, to request deletion, to restrict or object to processing, to request portability of your data, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these rights, you can use the in-app controls above or contact us at [email protected] and we will respond as required by applicable law.
If you believe we have not handled your personal data properly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection supervisory authority. Users in Hong Kong may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD), and users in the EU/UK may contact their local supervisory authority.
11. Sign in with Apple
If you sign in with Apple, you can choose to hide your email address. In that case, Apple provides us with an anonymized private-relay address instead of your real one, and any emails we do send you — such as a sign-in link or other transactional message — are delivered to you through Apple's relay service rather than to your real address. You can manage or disable this relay at any time in your Apple ID settings.
12. Children's Privacy
Oui Chef is not directed to children under the age of 13, or under the applicable minimum age in your region. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone in this age group. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child below the applicable minimum age, we will take steps to delete it.
13. International Users & Data Transfers
Oui Chef is operated from Hong Kong. Because we rely on the AI and cloud infrastructure providers described in Section 5, your information may be processed and stored in other countries where those providers operate, which may have data-protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction. By using Oui Chef, you understand that your data may be transferred to and processed in these locations.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of Oui Chef after an update takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
